A sustainable solution for your retaining wall - Sandstone.

It’s remarkable to discover in 2022, ordinary Australians making more ethical and environmentally conscious decisions about where they’re spending their money.

Every year in Australia, the building and construction industry produces 27 million tonnes of waste, according to the national waste report of 2020. Our aim within Supreme Sandstone is to offer more sustainable and environmentally friendly options for clients so that our future generations can benefit from our decisions we make today.

If you’re wanting to create a smaller footprint during your new build, consider if Sandstone is an option for you. Here’s why:

- Approximately 100% of all stone can be recycled either in the quarry reclamation or as fill material for new building projects. Fun fact, we generally recycle our offcuts as boulders or garden décor.

- All of our sandstone is within NSW, providing an Australian product without the carbon miles associated with other imported inferior sandstone.

- Extracting sandstone from the earth requires merely a fraction of the embodied energy involved in producing other masonry materials such as bricks and concrete.

- No chemicals are used in the production and processing of sandstone.

- There is no waste, as products can be crushed and used for things such as aggregate sand, boulders + More.

- All water used in producing the sandstone can be reused.

- Stone can be utilised for multiple different projects such as paving, pool surrounds, flooring, garden edging and facades.

- Stone being a natural product stands the test of time, meaning in a decade you won’t be required to rip it down and rebuild which is cost effective and ultimately another conscious decision for waste.

The bottom line is that sandstone as a natural product and has a low environmental impact throughout its lifecycle. Yes, we see pollution in transportation, however if you make the conscious decision to source your stone from your nearest quarry this is still a mindful decision noticeably, than exporting the stone from overseas for a cheaper rate or from a quarry in another state as this can contribute to carbon miles.

I realise sandstone is a building material for the future with the environmental properties that it holds.

Please remember if you are constructing a sandstone retaining wall or using stone for other building projects, your stone needs to be installed by a qualified licenced contractor. This is important so that your projects holds warranty, is built to code and will stand the test of time as mentioned above. You can look-up your contractor using the following link:
